Cycling lessons for women in Glasgow
For some women cycling has been a dream and for others, it’s something that looks like fun but you never learned how. We provide adult cycling lessons for women of all abilities to help you get on a bike and ride the stunning routes of Glasgow with friends.

Have you had a cycling mishap and it’s dented your confidence? Or maybe you’re unsure what equipment you need to cycle safely by yourself or with your family? We offer equipment loans, cycling advice and confidence rides to help you enjoy cycling.
Bike maintenance classes in Glasgow
Tyre punctures or bike chains popping off mid-ride can put you off cycling when you don’t know how to fix it yourself. We can teach you! Our friendly all-women team of trainers can give you the confidence to DIY when mishaps happen on your next ride.

Unsure about paying? We offer ‘Pay As You Can’ pricing so that no woman is left behind with cycling.

Offered on a one-to-one and group basis, our lessons are available for complete beginners and those getting back on a bike after a break.

Our regular led bike rides are a great way to build confidence and get comfortable travelling around the city by bike.

We currently run a 5-week bike maintenance class cycle - pun intended! We cover punctures, roadside repairs, gear maintenance, cleaning your bike, V-brakes maintenance and lubricating your chain and gears.

If you want to cycle a regular journey, book in a bespoke bike buddy session. We will map out a cycle route and then cycle the route with you until you are comfortable doing it yourself.

We regularly hold social events such as film nights, speaker events, introductory mountain biking sessions, bike touring and bike packing events, plus so much more.

Want to cycle but do not have access to a working bike? Loan a bike from us for up to a month before you commit to buying your own. Accessories such as helmets, lights, locks and panniers are also available.

Women cycling group in Glasgow on a mission
The world of everyday cycling is dominated by a white male demographic, and we’re here to change it.
We’re working to encourage women into cycling, following years of working with our local community to understand the barriers they face and how they can be overcome.
Together, we’re creating an all-inclusive community to bring women onto bikes so they can cycle for transport and leisure.

Shgufta
Our founding director, Shgufta has a decade of experience running highly successful cycling projects for women, particularly women of colour. Alongside her commitment to empowering women’s confidence and abilities, Shgufta is passionate about improving the environment.

Katherine
Our Families Activities Coordinator, Katherine started a local bike bus to enable children and their families to cycle safely to school. Through this work she has seen and experienced first hand how cycling can benefit the lives of families - she wants to help them break down the barriers to cycling, have some fun and experience the utter joy of being on a bike.

Mollie
Our Women’s Activities Coordinator (Maternity Cover), Mollie is an experienced ride leader and cycle trainer. She began her career in community cycling with Sustrans, where she delivered a range of cycling initiatives with communities across London and Scotland. Mollie is particularly dedicated to helping women discover the joy and freedom that different types of cycling can bring.

Rachel
Rachel is our Teens and Volunteers Coordinator. Cycling has always played a big role in Rachel’s life from learning to ride with her parents to racing on the velodrome and bikepacking around Scotland. Rachel is excited to share her passion for cycling with young girls in Glasgow and support our wonderful volunteers on their cycling journeys. She has extensive experience with ride leading and cycle training.

Do I need a bike to get started with the Women on Wheels cycling group?
No, you don’t need a bike to get started with us. We offer bike loan services that you can you use for any of our cycling services. You can also borrow helmets, lights, a lock and waterproofs too if you need them.
Where does your cycling group meet in Glasgow?
Our cycling group has a community hub on the southside of Glasgow. Our address is Govanhill Workspace, Unit 4, 69 Dixon Road, Glasgow, G42 8AT. We cycle all over Glasgow and further afield too! If you have questions, contact our cycling community team.
I’ve never cycled before, how do I get started?
Our adult cycling lessons are designed for beginners and delivered by our experienced women-led team of cycling instructors. We have an easy cycling activity rating system to help you choose the service that’s right for you.
Who can join the Women on Wheels cycling group?
We welcome women of all cycling abilities and from all backgrounds! Our definition of Women includes Trans and Intersex women, and is welcome to non-binary people who feel comfortable in a space that centres the experience of women. Our mission is to help all women overcome barriers to cycling and support women to experience the joy of cycling. If you have an interest or passion for cycling, join our group of social cyclists today!
Is Glasgow the only place you cycle to?
Depending on your confidence, we cycle all over Glasgow and beyond. Our community cycling hub is on Glasgow's southside - the perfect place to learn how to cycle and socialise. We regularly cycle in parks like Glasgow Green and Queens Park and along many of Glasgow’s scenic cycle routes too.

You can book directly into one of our lessons or confidence rides to get started. However, if you have questions first, get in contact and speak to one of the team.
