Our bike maintenance courses are designed to help women feel more confident with their bikes and learn how to keep them in top condition. With our friendly and experienced instructors, you'll learn practical skills like fixing a puncture, adjusting brakes and gears, and cleaning your bike chain.
Our bike maintenance classes are held in Glasgow at our Women on Wheels cycling hub and are perfect for beginners who want to gain practical skills that will save them money when cycling regularly. Plus, you'll feel empowered and independent knowing that you can handle any minor repairs on your rides. We provide all the necessary tools and equipment, so you can focus on having fun and learning practical skills that will last a lifetime.

Cycle Activity Rating System
Before booking a cycling session with us, please check our rating system and decide which level is most suitable for your current ability, and then book a session that matches this.
If you do not know which level you are at then contact Women on Wheels, and we can talk it through with you and advise on the correct session to book.

1 Star - Learners level - Learn to ride sessions for those that cannot ride a bike. These sessions take place in an off-road training ground.

2 Stars - Beginners level - First Led Ride/Introduction Led Ride/Park Ride for those who have recently learnt how to cycle or have not been on a bike in many years and are a bit wobbly or nervous. These cycle rides will take place on cycle paths and in parks

3 Stars - Easy rides level - Led ride for those who can cycle without wobbling and have good handling of a bike but would like to improve confidence cycling and/or build fitness. These rides will take place on quiet roads, cycle paths and in parks.

4 Stars - Intermediate level - Longer led rides for those who can cycle competently and who cycle regularly and are able to keep a consistent pace of around 8 mph as well as deal with some steep inclines. These rides will take place on a mixture of cycle paths and on roads.

5 Stars - Competent level - Day-long rides for competent regular cyclists that are able to keep an 8 mph pace, deal with inclines and who have the fitness to cycle for longer durations. These rides will take place on a mixture of cycle paths and on roads.
Book Bike Maintenance Classes Today
We offer the following five Bike Maintenance Classes on a 5-week rotation: V-Brakes, Puncture Repairs, Bike Cleaning & Care, Emergency Roadside Repair and Gears. All classes are booked separately. Classes can be booked up to two months in advance. If no classes appear, it’s likely because it’s fully booked. If you would like to be added to the waiting list for a certain class then please email women@womenonwheels.org.uk.

Do I need to bring my own bike to the bike maintenance classes?
No, you don't need to bring your own bike! We provide all the necessary tools and equipment for the classes.
Do I need any prior experience with bike maintenance to attend the classes?
Not at all, our maintenance classes are for beginners looking to improve their practical skills in bike maintenance.
Why are no sessions appearing when I click ‘Book’?
If no sessions are appearing, it’s likely because the classes are fully booked. The classes become available to book two months in advance.
How long do the bike maintenance classes last?
Our introduction bike maintenance classes are 2 hours and 30 minutes long.
What should I wear to the bike maintenance classes?
Where something comfortable and appropriate for the weather as we may do some classes outside. We can provide waterproofs and gloves if needed.
Can I be added to a waiting list?
If a class you would like to attend is fully booked, you can be added to the waiting list by emailing women@womenonwheels.org.uk.
