Summer Cycling in Glasgow: Family-Friendly Routes for All Abilities with Confidence-Building Tips & Solutions.
With the launch of our new Families Programme, we want to take you on a joyful
journey through Glasgow and its abundance of family-friendly cycle routes.
We understand that building confidence in cycling is essential to help you get out and
about by bike. So, we’ve included confidence-building solutions for each route, ensuring
everyone can enjoy the ride. Let’s hop on our bikes and explore our top family-friendly
cycle routes in Glasgow!🚴♀️🚴♂️
1. Glasgow Green Circuit (Easy Cycle Route) 🍃
Confidence-Boosting Tip: Start with one of our Family Confidence-building Sessions at
Women on Wheels, where beginners can learn basic bike handling skills and road
safety. Practicing in a safe environment will help build confidence before embarking on
the Glasgow Green Circuit.
2. Kelvingrove Park Loop (Easy to Moderate Cycle Route) 🌳
Confidence-Boosting Tip: Plan a family group ride with experienced cyclists leading the
way. Knowing that there’s support and guidance will help boost the confidence of new
riders during this gorgeous journey through Kelvingrove Park.
3. The Canal Towpath (Easy to Moderate Cycle Route) 🛶
Confidence-Boosting Tip: Invest in or borrow comfortable and well-fitted bikes for
everyone. A proper bike fit ensures that riders feel in control and comfortable, especially
during longer rides like the canal towpath. You can use the Women on Wheels Bike
Loan Service which runs on a ‘Pay what you can’ basis.
4. Pollok Country Park Pedal (Easy to Moderate Cycle Route) 🦌
Confidence-Boosting Tip: Start with a shorter loop within Pollok Country Park, gradually
extending the ride as confidence grows. Celebrate each milestone, and take breaks to
explore the park’s attractions, such as the play park, Burrell Collection, highland coos or
an ice-cream from the van!
5. Clyde River Cycleway (Moderate Cycle Route) ⛵️
Clyde River Cycleway - Town to Cuningar Loop - 3.3 miles (one way)
Confidence-Boosting Tip: Consider using bikes with gears to make navigating moderate
inclines easier. Practice gear shifting in a park or with one of our brilliant Cycle Trainer’s
in open area to get comfortable before taking on the Clyde River Cycleway. You can
book a Learn to Ride or Confidence Building session here.
6. Rouken Glen Park Exploration (Moderate Cycle Route) 🍂
Confidence-Boosting Tip: Encourage each family member to set their own pace. It’s
okay to take it slow and stop to appreciate the beauty of Rouken Glen Park. Knowing
they can cycle at their speed will boost confidence in younger or less-experienced
riders.
7. The West End Wanderer (Moderate Cycle Route) 🏰
Confidence-Boosting Tip: Consider a guided bike tour of the West End. Local guides
can share interesting stories and ensure everyone stays together, alleviating any
anxiety about navigating unfamiliar streets. Check out our pals Gallus Pedals here, who
run tours using beautiful refurbished postal bikes.
Remember, building confidence in cycling takes time and patience. Here at Women on
Wheels we can help you overcome any barriers you may have with cycling as a family.
